Mungyeong in North Gyeongsang Province will pay each resident 250,000 won ($186) as a "high fuel price crisis relief grant," the city announced Tuesday.

The total budget for the program is about 16.8 billion won.

Eligible recipients are residents who have been continuously registered in Mungyeong from June 30, 2026, through the date of their application.

Among foreign nationals, permanent residents (F-5 visa holders) and marriage immigrants (F-6) are also eligible.

Applications will be accepted at the administrative welfare center of the applicant's registered neighborhood office from Sept. 14 through Oct. 23.

During the first week of applications, Sept. 14 through Sept. 18, a five-day rotation system will be in place, assigning application days based on the last digit of each applicant's birth year.

The grant will be issued as a prepaid card usable at small businesses in Mungyeong with annual revenue of no more than 3 billion won.

The card must be used by Dec. 31. Any remaining balance left unspent by the deadline will not be refunded and will expire automatically.

Mungyeong Mayor Kim Hak-hong said he hoped the grant would "help ease, even if only a little, the financial burden on residents struggling with high prices and high fuel costs."
