Yeongju City in North Gyeongsang Province held a detailed planning meeting Monday at the city hall auditorium to prepare for the 65th North Gyeongsang Province Sports Festival, scheduled for 2027. The meeting brought together the Yeongju City Sports Council, the district education office, police, the fire department and other related agencies.

The session built on a master plan established in March, sharing detailed action plans developed by the 43 working groups under the festival's 19-division, one-office executive committee, and reviewing key issues and coordination tasks to lay the groundwork for systematic preparation.

Participants reviewed the schedules and key preparation priorities of each working group, with particular emphasis on clarifying roles and coordination frameworks for tasks requiring cooperation across multiple departments.

The meeting also stressed the importance of on-the-ground preparations for the convenience of athletes and visitors. Discussions covered creating a safe and comfortable competition environment, as well as concrete measures across areas such as traffic guidance, accommodation and sanitation to ensure a smooth stay for visitors. Ways to encourage civic participation and link the event to local tourism and cultural resources were also explored.

Kim Gyeong-jun, chairman of the Yeongju City Sports Council, said the organization would work closely with sport-specific governing bodies "to create the best possible conditions for athletes to perform at their peak and bring together the capabilities of local sports communities."

Yeongju Mayor Hwang Byeong-jik said thorough preparation and close cooperation among all departments would be essential to a successful festival. "We will do our utmost to provide athletes and visitors with a safe and comfortable environment, and to make this a festival of unity that fills our citizens with pride," he said.
