Donation boxes placed at the district office and 17 neighborhood community centers to collect goods and cash; drive aims to bring warmth to isolated seniors, people with disabilities and multicultural families while strengthening community ties
Jongno-gu is running its "2026 Chuseok Sharing and Donation Campaign" through Sept. 16 to deliver support to vulnerable residents.
The drive aims to bring warmth to low-income residents — including elderly people living alone, people with disabilities and multicultural families — who may feel the holiday season most acutely. The district hopes to spread a culture of everyday giving and strengthen community bonds. District employees, residents, organizations and students are all welcome to take part.
Throughout the campaign, the district will place donation boxes at the district office, neighborhood community centers and schools to collect food and daily necessities. Individuals and organizations may also make cash donations through the Community Chest of Korea.
Accepted items include shelf-stable goods such as canned food, canned beverages, sauces, noodles, rice and seasonings, as well as daily necessities like soap and toothpaste, hygiene supplies including masks and hand sanitizer, and Onnuri gift vouchers. Fresh and frozen foods that may spoil at room temperature, items with less than one month until their expiration date, medicines, used goods and damaged products will not be accepted.
Collected items will be distributed to those in need through the Jongno-gu Food Bank Market Center. A handover ceremony is scheduled for Sept. 21.
"I hope this becomes a meaningful occasion for all residents to come together through sharing during our great national holiday," District Mayor Yoo Chan-jong said. "This is a chance to reach out to neighbors in need, and I ask for your generous participation and attention."
