Additional class to launch at former Noryangjin district office building alongside main district office — both running simultaneously every Friday evening at 6 p.m.
Walk-in, registration-free format retained to maximize accessibility and foster an open civic space for all residents
Dongjak-gu will expand its popular line dance class from one location to two starting Friday, as part of the district's open civic space initiative.
The district said it pursued the expansion to bring cultural benefits closer to residents' daily lives and to return civic building space to the community, deepening the sense of an open, accessible district office.
The program launched Aug. 7 as a pilot, with classes held every Friday at 6 p.m. in the grand auditorium on the fourth floor of the main district office building, running for a total of four sessions.
The pilot required no advance registration, welcoming walk-in participants, and drew roughly 500 attendees over the course of its run.
Buoyed by that response, the district will add a second venue starting Friday — the fifth-floor grand auditorium of the former Noryangjin district office building at 161 Jangseungbaegi-ro — splitting attendance between the two sites to give participants more space and ensure the program runs smoothly and safely.
Classes remain free of charge, running simultaneously every Friday evening at 6 p.m. at the main Dongjak-gu district office (70 Jangseungbaegi-ro), fourth-floor grand auditorium, and at the former Noryangjin building (161 Jangseungbaegi-ro), fifth-floor grand auditorium. Inquiries can be directed to the district office's Sports Policy Division.
"Watching residents fill the auditorium with such enthusiasm during the pilot gave me a deep sense of what opening up our civic buildings can mean," District Mayor Ryu Sam-young said. "We will continue to provide full administrative support so that the district office can serve as a source of vitality in the city — a place that supports residents' health, leisure and connection."
