Park Wan-su directs officials to review legal framework at Monday meeting; urges flood recovery before chuseok

South Gyeongsang Province will begin reviewing the feasibility of establishing a tentatively named "space academy" to train core talent for the aerospace industry.

Governor Park Wan-su directed officials at an expanded executive meeting at the provincial government building Monday to proactively examine whether a dedicated training institution is needed to secure skilled workers in the space sector. "If the need is confirmed, also look into how to put in place the relevant laws and systems," he said.

Park cited developments surrounding a US space academy initiative and the case of NASA, calling for a talent-development framework tailored to local conditions. The plan envisions building a South Gyeongsang-style talent supply model — drawing on existing aviation high schools and regional university infrastructure — ahead of any central government policy.

In a review of major provincial affairs, the meeting highlighted the passage of nine South Gyeongsang road projects through the preliminary feasibility study for the sixth national and local road construction plan. Park said national plan inclusion translates directly into securing state funding, and directed officials to concentrate administrative efforts on winning next year's central government budget, attracting a second round of public institutions, and securing inclusion in the national railway network construction plan.

Park also urged officials to accelerate recovery in Tongyeong and Geoje, both designated special disaster zones, so that displaced residents can return to normal life before chuseok, and to manage prices and emergency medical services without gaps throughout the holiday period.
