The Asan Social Welfare Foundation donated $200,000 Monday to support flood victims in Nepal, channeling the funds through the Korean Red Cross.
The donation will be used for emergency relief and recovery efforts, including food, daily necessities and medical assistance for affected residents.
The foundation has consistently provided relief funds whenever major disasters strike overseas. In 2023, it donated $400,000 through the Korean Red Cross for earthquake recovery in Turkey and Syria. Its overseas relief efforts also include support for Ukrainian refugees and ethnic Koreans in 2022, victims of the 2018 Indonesia tsunami, the 2015 Nepal earthquake, the 2013 Philippines typhoon, the 2010 Pakistan floods and the 2006 Sri Lanka tsunami — totaling about 2.1 billion won ($1.55 million) in overseas aid to date.
The foundation has also consistently supported domestic disaster relief and recovery. It donated 800 million won for victims of wildfires and floods in Gangwon Province and North Gyeongsang Province between 2022 and 2025, 1 billion won for COVID-19 relief efforts in 2020, and 100 million won for wildfire victims in Gangwon Province in 2019.
