Gov. Park Soo-hyun, union promote work-life balance to build flexible workplace
South Chungcheong Province has launched its third-quarter priority initiative to foster a workplace culture centered on work-life balance.
Governor Park Soo-hyun held an "on-time departure roulette" event Monday at the first below-ground floor of the provincial government headquarters together with the civil servants union, promoting work-life balance practices among staff.
The event was designed to spread a culture of respecting employees' personal time after work and to encourage participation in on-time departures through an interactive activity.
Participants spun a roulette wheel featuring three phrases symbolizing work-life balance — on-time departure, flexible working and family happiness — and received integrity-promotion gifts based on whichever phrase the wheel landed on.
Park and Choi Jeong-hui, chairwoman of the South Chungcheong Civil Servants Union, greeted employees leaving work between 6 p.m. and 6:20 p.m. and spun the roulette wheel alongside them.
The province said it plans to use the event as a springboard to reduce unnecessary overtime and the pressure employees feel when leaving work, and to build a workplace where staff can freely use annual leave and flexible working arrangements.
"Work-life balance is important not only for employees' personal happiness but also for boosting organizational vitality and work efficiency," Park said. "We will work together to build a healthy organizational culture in which employees respect and care for one another's work and personal lives."
