All Yeongdeungpo residents, workers and students may cast ballots from Monday through Sept. 18; voters may choose up to two of 10 finalist projects
Yeongdeungpo-gu is holding an online public vote to select participatory budget projects for inclusion in next year's district budget.
The participatory budget system allows residents to propose projects their communities need and take part in the budget-drafting process, boosting transparency and accountability in fiscal management — a flagship initiative for resident civic empowerment.
The district received 62 resident proposals through a public call for submissions held from March through May. After reviewing project feasibility and conducting deliberations through subcommittees, officials narrowed the list to 10 projects totaling 620 million won ($450,000) that are closely tied to residents' daily lives and expected to have a tangible impact.
The 10 projects put to a vote include creating a flower-lined path along Anyangcheon and improving the riverside landscape, installing a deck walkway on the approach to Nodeul-ro, upgrading Yangpyeong Children's Park, improving rain-safety conditions on school routes in Singil 6-dong, and enhancing the intersection environment at the Gyeongin Expressway entrance in Yangpyeong 2-dong — a range of initiatives aimed at improving everyday safety and creating recreational spaces.
The vote is open to all Yeongdeungpo residents as well as workers and students based in the district. Participants can access the Yeongdeungpo participatory budget website or scan the QR code on promotional posters to cast up to two votes per person.
Project priorities will be determined by the vote results, and the selected projects are set to be incorporated into the 2027 budget proposal.
Yeongdeungpo-gu District Mayor Jo Yu-jin said the vote represents "an exercise of resident sovereignty, through which the valuable policies proposed directly by residents can be reflected in actual district administration," and urged broad participation, adding that "each resident's vote has the power to change the everyday life of our neighborhood."
