Four people were rushed to hospital in cardiac arrest Saturday after separate water accidents at a beach and a valley stream in Uljin-gun, North Gyeongsang Province.

According to the North Gyeongsang Province Fire Service and the Uljin Coast Guard, a man in his 40s identified as A and another man in his 40s identified as B were rescued in cardiac arrest and taken to hospital at around 10:32 a.m. Saturday at a valley stream in Sugok-ri, Geunnam-myeon, Uljin-gun. The two had jumped in to save A's elementary school-age son, who had been swept away by the current.

Witnesses said the child had been playing in the stream when the current carried him off, prompting A and his acquaintance B to dive in together.

The two men managed to pull the child to safety but each went into cardiac arrest in the water and were transported to hospital by rescue teams. The child was reported unharmed.

Just three minutes earlier, at around 10:29 a.m., authorities received a report that two men swimming near the coast in Mangyang-ri, Gisung-myeon, Uljin-gun, were unable to get out of the water.

Firefighters rescued two men in their 50s found in cardiac arrest near coastal rocks and took them to hospital.

The coast guard and fire authorities are investigating the exact circumstances of both incidents based on witness accounts.
