The North Gyeongsang Provincial Assembly held its 2026 member training session for all assembly members at the Rahan Hotel in Pohang on Thursday and Friday.

The first lecture was delivered by Lee Jong-gil, a senior judge at the Daegu Rehabilitation Court, who introduced the court's role and key functions under the theme "Introduction to the Daegu Rehabilitation Court and Criminal Procedure."

The second speaker, Jeong Su-hyo, an instructor at the Anti-Corruption Training Institute under the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, lectured on the Improper Solicitation and Graft Act and the Act on Prevention of Conflicts of Interest. The sessions aimed to raise ethical standards among local council members and strengthen their accountability to residents.

On the second day, instructor Jeong Yong-nam conducted a four-category violence prevention education session under the theme "Safe Legislative Activity Built on Respect."

To reinforce field-oriented legislative work, members visited the Pohang Accelerator Laboratory and the RIST Incubating Center to review the progress of ongoing projects and discuss policy directions for regional development and improved quality of life for provincial residents.

The Pohang Accelerator Laboratory is a world-class research facility that has long supported advances in basic science and high-tech industry. Operating third- and fourth-generation radiation accelerators, it serves universities, research institutes and businesses conducting cutting-edge research, generating notable results across fields including new materials, semiconductors, biotech and energy.

The RIST Incubating Center is equipped with advanced manufacturing infrastructure, including large-scale production facilities capable of continuous-process operations. It supports manufacturing startups through the full cycle from product development and commercialization to business growth, helping close the growth gap for early-stage manufacturing ventures and accelerating the commercialization of research and development outcomes.

Through the training, assembly members reaffirmed their commitment to the roles and responsibilities of local government, pledging to pursue more substantive legislative activities grounded in mutual communication and cooperation.

Assembly Speaker Kim Hui-su said she hoped the training would "further enhance members' expertise and policy capacity and serve as an opportunity to listen more closely to the voices of provincial residents." She added that the assembly would continue to "seek answers in the field and build a learning assembly that produces policies that make a real difference in people's lives."
