A landslide and flooding struck an area about 100 kilometers west of the epicenter of Nepal's catastrophic floods, which have left more than 6,000 people dead or missing, killing two workers at a hydropower construction site.

According to local media including the Kathmandu Post, a landslide hit the construction site of the Super Seti Hydropower Project in the Kaski district of Gandaki Province, central Nepal, at around 11 a.m. Saturday (local time). Two Nepali workers at the scene were injured and taken to a hospital, where they later died. A third worker sustained minor injuries.

The two workers who died were struck by debris that cascaded from above while they were excavating a road leading to the power plant.

Then, at around 3:30 a.m. that day, flooding hit the Namrung River, a tributary of the Trishuli River in the Gorkha district of Gandaki Province, destroying four houses and washing away a bridge. Local police said no casualties had been reported from that incident.

The Super Seti Hydropower Project, with a capacity of about 22 megawatts, is located roughly 100 kilometers west of the Rasuwa and Nuwakot districts in Bagmati Province — the areas hardest hit by the major floods that struck Aug. 26.
