Korea Zinc's Onsan Smelter announced Sunday that it has been running a mobile civil-service program with the Ulsan Driver's License Examination Office to improve employee convenience and welfare.

The service is available to employees of Korea Zinc, its affiliates and partner companies who need to renew their driver's licenses or have them reissued due to loss or damage.

On Thursday, officials from the Ulsan Driver's License Examination Office visited the Onsan Smelter to handle the relevant administrative tasks on-site, reducing the time burden on employees who find it difficult to visit the examination office in person during weekday working hours.

Because the smelter's shift-based operations make it hard for employees to visit outside agencies on weekdays, Korea Zinc has partnered with the Ulsan Driver's License Examination Office to run the mobile service every year since 2023. This year, reflecting growing demand, the smelter held the event for a second time, following an earlier session in April.

The Onsan Smelter plans to identify other areas where similar everyday services are needed and work with relevant agencies to continue improving employee welfare. It also intends to extend the various services beyond Korea Zinc staff to employees of affiliates and partner companies, aiming to build genuine, inclusive mutual benefit across all members of the workplace.

"The purpose of this mobile civil-service program is to let employees conveniently access the services they need right at their workplace," an Onsan Smelter official said. "We will continue to actively reflect the voices from the field and diverse needs, develop welfare programs that provide real help, and work together with our affiliates and partner companies to create a better working environment."

Meanwhile, the Onsan Smelter has been carrying out a range of corporate social responsibility activities. It recently donated 80 million won ($58,800) to ChildFund Korea to support Korean-language education for students with immigrant backgrounds in Ulsan, and separately provided 230 million won to Ulsan Metropolitan City as a fund to build a proactive disaster-response system.
