A couple's dilemma over an unusual offer from their in-laws — cash in exchange for attending Sunday church services — has drawn widespread attention online.

The story surfaced Tuesday on Blind, a workplace community app, in a post titled "How much would it take for you to go to church together?"

The author, identified as a husband referred to as A, said he had long stopped attending church out of consideration for his wife, who is not a churchgoer.

His parents, however, are devout believers who had been hoping the couple would join them for Sunday worship. To make it happen, they offered to give the couple an allowance each time they attended a service.

"Going to church on Sunday takes about two hours in the morning — one hour for the service plus travel time," A wrote. "I think 200,000 won ($146) per visit would be fair. For those who don't go to church, how much would it take for you to willingly go along?"

Reactions from other users were varied. "Going to church on Sunday is obviously weekend work," one commenter wrote. Others said the compensation should be at least 300,000 won, not 200,000 won, while some argued that Sunday is a lifeline for worn-out workers and that a full month's salary would be more appropriate. Several users also weighed in on the broader issue, saying that pressuring a spouse to follow one's religion is simply wrong.
