Park Seon-won, a supreme council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, said Wednesday that Rebuilding Korea Party leader Cho Kuk was showing "nothing short of ingratitude."

Park made the remarks at a supreme council meeting held at Sejong City Hall, saying he found Cho's recent comments "deeply regrettable."

"Those are not the words of a comrade," Park said. "What grievance could he possibly hold? I can only call it ingratitude."

Park appeared to be targeting comments Cho made regarding the Public Official Election Act case against President Lee Jae Myung.

In a Facebook post Tuesday, Cho — who now heads the Rebuilding Korea Party's policy research institute — said that in order to drop charges on the grounds of fabricated indictment, the fabrication itself must first be established. "If the Democratic Party pushes ahead with withdrawing the indictment against President Lee without confirming that, it will face serious political and legal consequences," he wrote.

Cho also said the Democratic Party had welcomed the guilty verdict against Yoon Suk Yeol on charges of making false statements under the Public Official Election Act, adding that "unless the Supreme Court reverses its legal reasoning, there is a very high likelihood that a guilty verdict will be handed down in the second-instance trial — which will resume after President Lee's term ends."
