Linking multi-drone systems, command and control, cybersecurity

The C5I Korea Center at George Mason University Korea is partnering with domestic companies to develop next-generation defense drone, AI and command-and-control technologies.

George Mason University Korea announced Tuesday that its C5I Korea Center signed MOUs with CrossSentinel and Taekyung Electronics for joint research in next-generation drones and command-and-control systems.

The collaboration focuses on developing future defense technologies that integrate multiple drones and unmanned systems with command-and-control infrastructure.

The three organizations plan to jointly develop and verify the practical applicability of defense drone and unmanned systems research, drone-to-command-and-control integration technologies, AI-based defense technologies, and countermeasures against cyber threats that may arise during drone operations.

The C5I Korea Center will contribute research capabilities in command and control, defense AI and cybersecurity, while Taekyung Electronics will handle the development and production of defense drones and mission-oriented unmanned systems.

CrossSentinel will develop security technologies to counter hacking and data breaches that could occur as drones connect with command-and-control systems.

The partners will also conduct joint research on AI-driven drone data analysis, integrated multi-drone operations and mission data protection.

Development of future command-and-control technologies linking drones with a range of unmanned systems is also included among the collaborative projects.

Shin In-seop, director of the C5I Korea Center, said the partnership is aimed at "preparing for a future battlefield environment where AI, data, unmanned systems and cybersecurity converge," adding that the center would "combine the university's research capabilities with the companies' technological expertise to contribute to the advancement of next-generation defense technology."
