Singer and actor Kim Min-jong has filed a police complaint against rapper and producer MC Mong (Shin Dong-hyun), accusing him of spreading false information through an internet broadcast. Kim said the baseless claims destroyed the reputation and trust he had built over 38 years and cost him a role in an upcoming project.

Kim's legal representative, law firm O'Kims, said Wednesday that it filed the complaint against MC Mong with the Jongno Police Station in Seoul on Tuesday, citing alleged violations of the Act on Promotion of Information and Communications Network Utilization and Information Protection — specifically defamation.

During a live internet broadcast on May 18, MC Mong made remarks suggesting Kim had been involved in illegal gambling, the receipt of money and gifts, and the bribing of witnesses.

At the time, MC Mong was raising allegations of illegal gambling against a man surnamed Cha, the uncle of One Hundred Label Chairman Cha Ga-won, when he said, "There is someone who receives tens of millions of won in tips while going around room salons engaging in illegal online gambling — and that person is entertainer Kim Min-jong."

Kim's side said the groundless claims had damaged a reputation built over 38 years and that it would pursue further legal action, including a civil damages claim, given the tangible harm suffered — including the cancellation of a role in a project under negotiation and the suspension of an advertising contract.
