Employees of Dunamu, the operator of virtual asset exchange Upbit, have received a commendation from the Korea Customs Service commissioner for their contributions to combating new forms of trade crime involving digital assets.

Dunamu said Wednesday that So Min-seop, head of the Financial Data Intelligence (FDI) team, and Kim Seong-yong, a researcher on the same team, received the commissioner's commendation at the 56th Korea Customs Service founding anniversary ceremony.

The Korea Customs Service selects and honors individuals who have contributed to the advancement of customs administration and the establishment of national economic order each year on its founding anniversary, July 27. The two Dunamu employees were recognized for their cooperation in cracking down on illegal foreign exchange transactions and trade crimes involving digital assets.

Drawing on their expertise and hands-on experience in the digital asset sector, So and Kim provided technical support and specialized advisory services to the Korea Customs Service as it traced illegal foreign exchange transactions and the movement of criminal proceeds.

They also analyzed major digital asset-related investigation cases handled by the Korea Customs Service and shared practical crime-analysis expertise with its investigators and staff. Dunamu said the collaboration helped strengthen the agency's digital investigation capabilities in customs administration.

Dunamu has built a public-private cooperation framework with the Korea Customs Service, working together to improve joint response systems for new forms of trade crime linked to digital assets and to support crackdowns on foreign exchange offenses.

"It is meaningful to have contributed to establishing a sound financial and trade order through cooperation with the Korea Customs Service at a time when crimes exploiting digital assets are becoming increasingly sophisticated," So said. "We will continue to do our utmost to enhance the transparency and safety of the digital asset ecosystem by further strengthening specialized technical support and public-private cooperation."
