A plogging event tied to the citizen-led 'Security Partners' program is also on offer — 300 new members will be selected by lottery to receive a 5,000-won mobile gift voucher
Dobong-gu in Seoul is launching a series of participation events for its "Carbon Empathy Mileage" program in September, including a plogging activity in partnership with the district's "Security Partners" citizen patrol initiative and a new-member sign-up campaign.
The Carbon Empathy Mileage program has been run by Dobong-gu since 2023. Residents earn mileage points by carrying out carbon-reduction activities in their daily lives — such as saving energy and using reusable products — and can exchange the points for Dobong Sarang gift vouchers, the district's local currency.
This month's events are designed for easy, everyday participation and include a plogging activity with the district's Security Partners program, a new-member sign-up event, and a resource-recycling campaign to promote proper waste sorting.
From Sept. 1 through Sept. 23, the district will run a plogging event in partnership with Security Partners, a citizen-led public safety initiative operated by police. Participants in Security Partners activities — including neighborhood watch groups and dog-walking patrol units — can upload a verification photo of themselves picking up litter to the app and receive 1,500 mileage points per person. The initiative links patrol activities with carbon-neutrality practices, creating an opportunity to protect both public safety and the environment.
A new-member sign-up event will run during the same period. Members who register on the app and complete verification as a Dobong-gu resident or regular user of the district will be entered into a lottery, with 300 winners each receiving a 5,000-won Daiso mobile gift voucher. The event is open not only to Dobong-gu residents but also to students at schools in the district, workers at local businesses, and self-employed individuals — anyone whose daily life is centered in Dobong-gu.
In addition, the district will hold a "Sweet Environment Campaign" with the Dobong Environmental Education Center from Friday through Tuesday. Participants who complete and verify at least one of the following actions — washing delivery food containers, removing shipping labels and tape from cardboard boxes, peeling labels off plastic bottles and other containers, or disposing of old clothes and used batteries in designated collection bins — will receive 100 mileage points, and 35 participants will be selected by lottery to receive a beverage gift coupon.
Details on how to participate in each event are available on the Dobong-gu district office website and in the notices section of the Carbon Empathy Mileage app.
"I hope this new-member event gives more residents a chance to discover the Carbon Empathy Mileage program and take part in everyday carbon-neutrality practices," Dobong-gu District Mayor Kim Dong-wook said. "We will continue to expand resident-driven initiatives like the Security Partners-linked activities."
