Pohang, North Gyeongsang Province, will host the "Pohang 10 Local Flavors Night Market Festival" this Friday and Saturday along Mundeok Hello Budae Street in Ocheon-eup, stretching from Mundeok Intersection to Big Mart Mundeok, the city announced Wednesday.
Running from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. each day, the festival is designed to celebrate Pohang's distinctive food culture by combining the city's 10 signature local dishes — known as "Pohang 10 Mi" — with the lively atmosphere of outdoor night market dining.
The event is also tied to the Mundeok Hello Budae Street commercial district, with the aim of promoting local food culture and injecting new energy into the neighborhood's small businesses.
The festival grounds will feature a night market street themed around Pohang's 10 signature dishes, with 20 food booths and 10 food trucks taking part. Parasols, tables and lighting will be set up to create a pojangmacha-style outdoor dining atmosphere.
A dedicated exhibition pavilion will also be on hand, giving visitors an overview of Pohang's food culture. The 10 featured dishes include mori guksu (noodle soup), Pohang mul-hoe (raw fish in cold broth), deungpureun mak-hoe (blue-backed fish sashimi), gwamegi (dried half-frozen fish), snow crab, ox-head gomtang (bone broth stew), Pohang Chosanchae bibimbap, Yeongildae clam barbecue, agutang (monkfish stew) and haesintang (seafood stew).
Side programs include local cultural performances, an impromptu talent show, a small-business flea market, hands-on experience booths and a 10 Mi stamp tour. Starting at 9 p.m. each night, a DJ party dubbed "Pohang 10 Mi Night" will round out the evening.
"We hope this festival will breathe new life into local food culture and the neighborhood commercial district," a Pohang city official said. "We will continue to link Pohang's culinary assets with tourism and cultural content to strengthen the city's standing as a gastronomic destination."
