A man in his 20s who beat a man on a street in Gangnam and then turned on bystanders who tried to intervene has been arrested.

The Gangnam Police Station obtained an arrest warrant Tuesday for the suspect, identified only as A, on charges of assault and is continuing its investigation.

A is accused of assaulting a man in front of a restaurant in Gangnam-gu at around 4:30 a.m. Saturday, then attacking two people — a woman identified as B and a man identified as C — who tried to stop him.

Closed-circuit television footage released by broadcaster MBN showed A throwing punches at B and C. He continued striking B even as she was pushed backward, and when she collapsed to the ground, he kicked her.

B suffered serious injuries in the attack, including four broken teeth.

"I called the police because he was assaulting someone, and this is what happened when I tried to stop it," B told the outlet.

Police said they plan to investigate the full circumstances of the incident.
