Continental Tire announced Tuesday it will run a two-month promotion for electric vehicle owners through Oct. 31, citing growing EV adoption in South Korea and increased long-distance driving demand ahead of the Chuseok holiday.

As EV sales and adoption in the domestic automotive market continue to grow, so does the importance of tire selection and maintenance for electric vehicle drivers. Because EVs differ from internal-combustion vehicles in weight and driving characteristics, tire performance and vehicle compatibility tailored to those differences are critical.

During the promotion, EV owners who purchase four qualifying tires at an authorized Continental dealer registered on the "MyContinental" app and log the installation in the app will receive a 50,000-won ($36) Shinsegae E-mart gift certificate.

"MyContinental" is a premium care service platform offering tire authenticity registration and free warranty services. The promotion applies only to customers who complete their "MyContinental" app registration within the promotion period; purchases made at unregistered dealers or through irregular retail channels are not eligible.

All Continental Tire products qualify for the promotion except winter and van tires. Gift certificates will be sent out on the second and fourth Fridays of each month; customers who participate in the final week of October will receive theirs on Nov. 6.

"As South Korea's EV market grows, the importance of choosing and maintaining tires suited to the driving characteristics of electric vehicles is becoming ever greater," said Niko Kyriazopoulos, head of the replacement tire division at Continental Tire Korea. "We hope this promotion gives customers the opportunity to experience a wide range of Continental products and choose tires that suit their vehicle and driving environment, so they can enjoy safer and more comfortable journeys."

Meanwhile, Continental Tire has been strengthening its partnerships with global automakers and expanding its reach, most recently being reselected as a "preferred partner" in the Mercedes-Benz global aftersales tire program.
