'Not a single second of the 100-day regular session will go to waste'

Democratic Party of Korea floor leader Han Byung-do said Tuesday that the National Assembly would rigorously vet the cabinet nominees put forward in Lee Jae Myung's Aug. 30 reshuffle, while firmly pushing back against any "baseless attacks" on the candidates.
Speaking at a floor strategy meeting that day, Han said the party would conduct the ministerial confirmation hearings responsibly "so that the new cabinet can quickly take shape before chuseok and focus on governing."
He added that the party would not waste "a single day, not a single second" of the 100-day regular session, pledging to accelerate the passage of livelihood legislation and bills tied to the government's policy agenda.
Han said the party would ensure the 2027 budget bill is passed within the legal deadline "to speed up the recovery of people's livelihoods and prepare a better tomorrow for South Korea." He added that while the door to dialogue and negotiations would remain open, the party would "never back down from reckless political squabbling and obstruction."
He went on to say that "just as Odysseus overcame countless hardships to finally reach his home of Ithaca, the Democratic Party will press forward undeterred by any interference or difficulty, with only one destination in mind — the people and their livelihoods."
Han also directed sharp criticism at the People Power Party, saying that "abusive language, denial of impeachment, distortion of history and claims of election fraud have become routine for the PPP." He called it "a clear and dangerous sign that the People Power Party has lost its capacity for self-correction and is transforming from a legitimate political party into a far-right one."
