Users earn up to 300 won per hour in cashback for daytime weekend use

Samsung also expands energy partnerships with Enel and British Gas

Samsung Electronics said Tuesday it is launching a "Smart Appliance Cashback" pilot program in partnership with Korea Electric Power Corporation. The company has integrated a dedicated feature into its SmartThings app to make enrollment and cashback redemption straightforward.

The pilot is designed to encourage customers to run home appliances during hours when renewable energy generation — including solar power — is at its peak. The two-month program begins Tuesday and aims to spread a culture of more efficient electricity use.

Participants who run eligible appliances between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on weekends and public holidays will receive 100 won per kilowatt-hour of electricity consumed, up to a maximum of 300 won per hour.

The four eligible product categories are washing machines, dryers, dishwashers and clothing care systems — appliances that consume relatively large amounts of electricity and can easily be scheduled for off-peak use. Cashback will be applied as a deduction from the customer's electricity bill or paid out as a refund.

Customers using Samsung smart appliances can sign up for the program directly through the SmartThings app.

The app's scheduling feature allows users to set their washing machines or dryers to run on weekend mornings in advance, letting them earn the cashback benefit without adjusting their routines.

Samsung also offers a SmartThings Energy feature that lets users monitor real-time power consumption of connected appliances and run devices more efficiently through an AI power-saving mode.

Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics is continuing to expand energy partnerships with major global energy companies — including Italy's Enel, Britain's British Gas and the Netherlands' Coolblue — to offer customers electricity bill savings.

In June, Samsung officially launched a service with Enel, Italy's largest energy company, providing customers who purchase a Samsung washing machine with up to 180 kilowatt-hours of free laundry electricity over two years. The company also teamed up with British Gas to introduce a plan offering a 50 percent discount on weekend electricity rates.
