'Share Roaming' expanded to 20GB, valid for 30 days

Airport lounge, Southeast Asia Grab discounts added

KT Corp is overhauling its major roaming products to ease data costs for overseas travelers, while also expanding perks such as airport lounge discounts and local mobility benefits.

KT Corp said Tuesday it will revamp two flagship roaming products — "Share Roaming" and "All-Day Roaming" — to improve convenience and strengthen the competitiveness of its overseas travel services.

The overhaul will give users more generous data allowances. Under the "Share Roaming" plan, which lets family members and friends pool data, the 33,000-won ($24) tier will increase from 4GB to 5GB, the 44,000-won tier from 8GB to 10GB, and the 66,000-won tier from 12GB to 20GB.

Usage periods will also be extended. The 33,000-won "Share Roaming" plan and the 19,800-won "Y Share Roaming" plan will both see their validity extended from 15 days to 30 days. KT Corp said the change will allow customers on extended stays abroad to use the service throughout their entire trip.

A new "Share Roaming 40GB" plan priced at 77,000 won will also be introduced. The "Y Share Roaming" lineup, designed for customers aged 34 and under, will likewise receive expanded data allowances. KT Corp said the youth-oriented plans offer a 40 percent discount compared with standard "Share Roaming" rates and include an additional 1GB of data.

The "All-Day Roaming Basic" and "All-Day Roaming Plus" products will also see their daily data allowances doubled — from 500MB to 1GB for the Basic tier, and from 1GB to 2GB for the Plus tier.

In addition, KT Corp plans to offer discount benefits for roaming customers, including reduced rates for airport lounge access at Incheon and Gimpo international airports and a partnership discount with ride-hailing service Grab in Southeast Asia.

The airport lounge discount applies when customers obtain a coupon through the KT membership app and purchase an access pass on the partner's dedicated page. The Grab partnership benefit is available to customers visiting Vietnam, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Cambodia. Upon arrival in any of those countries, customers will receive a "Travel Pass Code" by text message; registering the code in the Grab app unlocks ride discounts. The benefit is available while supplies last.

"We pursued this overhaul with a focus on expanding data benefits that overseas travelers can actually feel," said Kang I-hwan, executive vice president of KT Corp's Customer Division. "We will continue to roll out differentiated roaming services that reflect customer usage patterns and raise customer satisfaction."
