Daegu Health College's Lifelong Education Institute completed a patient safety program for 20 nursing students at the college's Culture Hall and Indang Hall from Thursday to Friday last week.

The program was organized as part of the Glocal University 30 project to strengthen patient safety competencies and clinical response skills among prospective nurses.

Over 16 hours across the two days, participants covered core nursing topics including patient safety, hospital-acquired infections and medication management.

The curriculum combined problem-based learning — in which students worked through scenarios drawn from real clinical situations — with simulation exercises.

Students practiced identifying problems and developing solutions in infection control and medication management scenarios, building communication skills and on-site response capabilities in the process.

Park Hui-ok, director of the Lifelong Education Institute and a nursing professor, said patient safety is a fundamental and essential competency that prospective nurses must develop before entering clinical practice. "We will continue to expand practice-centered education so that students can build experience making independent judgments and responding to situations that closely mirror the real clinical environment," she said.
