Pezeshkian vows to elevate economic ties with India by neutralizing US sanctions

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian criticized what he described as forces within the United States seeking to perpetuate conflict, and expressed his determination to elevate economic cooperation with India.

Speaking Monday (local time) in Bishkek, the capital of Kyrgyzstan and the host city of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, Pezeshkian met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss regional security and avenues for bilateral cooperation, according to Iran's semi-official Tasnim News Agency.

Pezeshkian doubled down on the importance of peaceful resolution in the region. "Unfortunately, there are forces within the United States that find their interests in the continuation of war and seek to perpetuate conflict," he said.

He went on to say that "the solution to the problems we currently face lies only in dialogue and cooperation," adding that "all available capacities must be mobilized to prevent the further spread of instability and conflict."

Pezeshkian particularly stressed the need to deepen economic ties with India, saying the two countries "can elevate the level of economic cooperation between Iran and India by neutralizing the effects of sanctions." He also said Iran had honored its commitments within the framework of existing agreements, while the United States had failed to fulfill its obligations.
