33 of 35 care team members take part in session covering risk profiles and communication skills
Training focused on real-world cases to sharpen early detection of crisis signs and welfare referrals
Gwangjin-gu held a capacity-building training session for its Woori Dongne Dolbomdan (neighborhood care team) on Thursday, aimed at preventing lonely deaths and improving welfare checks on socially isolated households.
The session was designed to sharpen the team's ability to spot early warning signs among isolated residents and connect them with needed welfare services. Of the 35 care team members, 33 attended.
The training covered the key characteristics of households at high risk of dying alone and effective communication techniques for engaging with them. Participants also shared real-world cases from their fieldwork, making the session practical and directly applicable to their day-to-day work.
The Woori Dongne Dolbomdan is deployed across the district's neighborhoods, conducting regular phone calls and home visits to check on socially isolated households. Members monitor residents' living conditions, health and social ties, and promptly report any crisis situations or unusual changes to the local community center so that appropriate welfare services can be arranged.
Through the training, care team members strengthened their ability to go beyond routine check-ins, paying close attention to subtle changes in residents and building ongoing relationships with them. Working through real cases, they also practiced identifying crisis warning signs in high-risk households and learned how to respond to different situations.
Gwangjin-gu said it will continue investing in the care team's development, reinforcing a field-centered welfare check system and building a tighter safety net to ensure that single-person households and those at risk of dying alone are not left behind in the community.
"The Woori Dongne Dolbomdan is a vital human safety net — the people closest to neighbors in need," Gwangjin-gu District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho said. "We will build a thorough welfare check system that misses no warning sign, however small, and do our utmost to prevent lonely deaths."
