Jeong Tae-ho named to lead Seoul policy planning unit

The Democratic Party of Korea has appointed lawmaker Kim Jeong-ho to chair its special committee on national party expansion, which aims to strengthen the self-sustaining capacity of strategic regions including Yeongnam and Gangwon Province.

Chief Spokesperson Park Seong-jun announced the additional appointments to reporters after the supreme council meeting concluded Monday.

Lawmaker Kim Moon-su was named senior vice chair of the national party expansion special committee. Lee Sung-yoon, a supreme council member, was retained as chair of the Global West Sea Era Special Committee, a non-standing special committee formed under former party leader Jung Chung-rae.

Lawmaker Park Hae-cheol will lead the standing Multicultural Committee, while lawmaker Lee Gwang-hui and former Korean Sport & Olympic Committee Vice Chairman Kang Shin-seong will head the Special Committee on Climate Crisis Response and Environment and the Sports Special Committee, respectively.

Kim Yong-nam, the regional committee chair for Pyeongtaek-eul in Gyeonggi Province, was named standing vice chair of the policy committee. Kang Min-gu, a professor at Myongji University's industry-academic cooperation foundation, was appointed deputy head of the ethics and inspection unit.

Two-term lawmaker Jeong Tae-ho was appointed to lead the Seoul Policy Planning TF, a non-standing task force that gathers public sentiment in Seoul and channels it into policy, with former policy committee Vice Chair Jeong Myeong-su serving as secretary. Lawmaker Jo In-cheol, a former deputy mayor for culture and economy of Gwangju, will head the South Jeolla Province-Gwangju Cultural Infrastructure Big Deal TF.

Lawmaker Kim Byeong-ju, a former deputy commander of the CFC, was named to lead the TF on the transfer of wartime operational control and relocation of US strategic assets. Lawmaker Nam In-sun was tapped to head the Animal Policy TF, which covers companion animals and broader animal welfare issues.

Lawmaker Lee Jae-jeong was added as a co-chair of the US-China-Japan party diplomacy task force, joining existing co-chairs Park Jeong, Min Hong-cheol and Hwang Hui.
