396-square-meter store opens near Yedan Lake
'Jaemrisu' dessert inspired by Taiwan's fenglisu
The Born Korea's coffee brand Paik's Coffee announced Monday that it has opened a dessert-focused complex store near Yedan Lake in Yesan-gun, South Chungcheong Province.
The Yedanho branch sits near the Yedan Lake suspension bridge, a tourist destination that draws about 1 million visitors a year. Spanning 396 square meters, the store can seat more than 60 customers.
The store marks the debut of "Jaemrisu," a dessert inspired by Taiwan's popular pineapple cake "fenglisu" and made with apple jam, a specialty of Yesan. Yesan-gun and The Born Korea developed it together from the outset, refining the recipe to suit Korean palates through a collaboration with a Taiwanese fenglisu manufacturer on production equipment and recipes. A floor-to-ceiling glass wall at the front of the in-store production area lets customers watch the desserts being made.
The Yedanho branch is also the first store under the "Hope Startup" program, which supports the financial independence of families of special-mission veterans. A family of a special-mission veteran will run the store directly, and The Born Korea plans to provide ongoing support to help ensure stable operations.
"Opening the Paik's Coffee Yedanho branch carries great significance as we continue to introduce and expand food content using local specialties — from the Yesan market to Jaemrisu — into our stores," a company official said.
