Featured in 4th Interchange and Complex Transfer Center Development Master Plan (2026–2030)
The Hanam Dream Wide-Area Transit Center, a flagship campaign pledge of the city's ninth elected administration, has been officially included as a new project in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Transport Commission's "4th Interchange and Complex Transfer Center Development Master Plan (2026–2030)," the city of Hanam announced Monday. The inclusion is expected to dramatically improve residents' access to regional transit.
The designation marks a major step toward establishing Hanam as a regional transportation hub, allowing residents to travel more quickly and conveniently not only across the Greater Seoul metropolitan area but throughout the country.
The project is the result of persistent lobbying by Hanam city officials — spanning both the eighth and ninth elected administrations — who repeatedly made the case for the facility to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Transport Commission, Gyeonggi Province and the Korea Expressway Corporation. Under the master plan, the Hanam Dream Transit Center will be built at a total project cost of 129.7 billion won ($94.2 million), with completion targeted for 2030.
The center will be located at the Hanam Dream rest stop in the heart of the city and will serve as a large-scale, multi-level interchange facility linking intercity express buses on the Jungbu Expressway, the Line 3 subway extension (the Songpa-Hanam line), and the Gyosan new town's transfer facilities — covering wide-area, city and village buses, as well as taxis.
The complex will bring together a transit-linked rest facility — including intercity bus and urban air mobility services — to be developed by the Korea Expressway Corporation, the Line 3 subway extension under Gyeonggi Province, and a Gyosan transfer facility covering wide-area and city buses, taxis, bicycles and personal mobility devices, to be built by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation.
Once complete, the project will not only significantly improve regional transit access for Hanam residents but also provide the funding basis and legal grounds for installing elevated pedestrian decks, moving walkways and other transfer-connection facilities linking the Line 3 station (Station 104) inside the Dream rest stop to the original city center, greatly improving Line 3 access for residents of older neighborhoods.
Residents of Seoul and Gyeonggi Province who use intercity express buses via the Jungbu Expressway will also be able to transfer directly to Line 3 at the Hanam Dream Wide-Area Transit Center, cutting travel time by roughly 20 to 30 minutes compared with using existing terminals in central Seoul. The development is expected to cement Hanam's role as a key regional transit corridor for the southeastern Greater Seoul area.
"Through Hanam's persistent efforts, the Hanam Dream Wide-Area Transit Center has been officially incorporated into the government's transit center master plan," Mayor Lee Hyeon-jae said. "We will actively coordinate with the Metropolitan Area Transport Commission, the Korea Expressway Corporation, Gyeonggi Province, the Korea Land and Housing Corporation and other relevant agencies to ensure the transportation facilities within the center are successfully linked and developed."
