Matching-grant format doubles customer contributions with equal company donation
Hyundai Department Store said it is running an emergency Nepal flood relief donation campaign on its H Point app through Sept. 13 to support recovery efforts following flooding caused by glacial lake outbursts.
The campaign uses a matching-grant format in which the company contributes an amount equal to the total points donated by customers, with each point valued at 1 won. The funds will go to Habitat for Humanity Korea and be used for purposes including the construction of temporary residential facilities in affected areas of Nepal.
Hyundai Department Store has operated its H Point app as a standing donation platform since 2022, running matching-grant campaigns whenever natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods or wildfires occur. About 23,000 customers took part in the campaign last year for wildfire recovery in North Gyeongsang Province, South Gyeongsang Province and Ulsan, while some 26,000 participated during the 2023 Turkey earthquake. The cumulative number of customers who have joined the company's natural disaster relief campaigns now stands at around 70,000.
"We will continue to lead the way in realizing social value through a variety of charitable activities together with our customers," said Yang Myeong-seong, executive director of sales strategy at Hyundai Department Store.
