Daegu city announced Sunday that it will abolish tolls on Beoman-ro and convert the road to a toll-free route starting at midnight Tuesday.

Beoman-ro opened in September 2002 and stretches 7.25 kilometers as a six-lane road connecting Gwangye Intersection in Suseong-gu's Beommul-dong with Ansim-ro in Dong-gu's Yulha-dong.

The road serves as a major arterial route linking Suseong-gu and Dong-gu while helping distribute traffic heading toward Gyeongsan and Yeongcheon.

The city cut tolls by up to 50 percent by vehicle type starting in January 2022.

Work will begin at the Gomo toll plaza in September, with crews dismantling the toll structures and improving lane configurations. Some lanes will remain open to traffic throughout the construction period.

The city also plans to continuously monitor road conditions and traffic volume changes to proactively respond to any shifts in demand following the toll removal, ensuring Beoman-ro continues to function safely as an arterial road.

Daegu Mayor Choo Kyung-ho said the city would carefully manage the safe completion of toll-booth demolition and lane improvements after the toll removal so that drivers can use Beoman-ro more quickly and conveniently. "We will continue to identify road policies closely attuned to residents' daily lives — reducing inconveniences and expanding benefits from the perspective of citizens," he said.
