Kukje Gallery's Busan branch is presenting "Bodies Holding Rituals," a solo exhibition by Korakrit Arunanondchai (b. 1986), through Oct. 31. The show focuses on the memories and energy that pass between family members and attachment dolls, exploring those themes through painting, video, sculpture and installation.
The artist used a thermal imaging camera to document family members holding dolls, then projected the footage onto transparent screens and worked pigment and polymer into the images to reconstruct them as "painterly bodies." The exhibition also features floor fragments made from ash left after burning crops, evoking cycles of life, memory, dissolution and regeneration.
