Photo exhibition and e-waste collection drive held ahead of Resource Circulation Day
GS Retail is hosting a photo exhibition for its marine environmental protection campaign, the "Bada Sum Project," at GS Tower in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, through Sept. 5.
Running since last year, the Bada Sum Project is a marine conservation initiative carried out in partnership with the Ocean and East Asia Sea Community (OSEAN) and marine exploration group Team Booster. The campaign aims to improve marine habitats and preserve biodiversity through ocean debris collection and underwater ecosystem cleanup and monitoring.
The exhibition, timed ahead of Resource Circulation Day on Sept. 6, features more than 40 photographs of marine life and underwater ecosystems taken by underwater photographers from Team Booster.
Last year, the project focused on protecting sea turtle migration routes off Jeju and in the East Sea. This year, the effort continued in Yangyang with conservation activities for eelgrass, a protected marine species.
GS Retail is also running a resource circulation drive to recycle discarded electronics. As part of its "Our Neighborhood Resource Circulation Campaign," the company will hold an e-waste collection event at GS Tower on Wednesday.
GS Retail employees, GS Group affiliates and GS25 franchise owners are invited to participate. Collected items will be processed and recycled through E-Cycle Governance.
On the same day, GS Retail will offer employees an environmental education session that includes a hands-on microplastics sorting activity.
GS Retail plans to continue expanding its resource circulation efforts, drawing on a network of more than 18,000 stores nationwide under GS25 and GS The Fresh.
"We will continue to carry out ESG activities that employees and franchise owners can take part in together," said Park Gyeong-rang, head of GS Retail's ESG division.
