A Korean man who killed a Vietnamese international student and fled the scene has been arrested.

Busan's Jungbu Police Station is investigating a man in his 20s, identified only by the surname initial A, on charges including murder, according to Yonhap.

A allegedly broke into the home of a female victim, also in her 20s, in Jung-gu, Busan, at around 1 a.m. Wednesday. He is accused of threatening her with a weapon, binding her mouth and hands with tape in an attempt to steal cash, and strangling her to death in the process.

The two were acquaintances who attended the same university in Busan.

According to police, a friend of the victim grew concerned after being unable to reach her and visited her home around lunchtime Wednesday, discovering her body in the bathroom and calling police.

Police arrested A at around 6:15 p.m. Wednesday at a hospital in Sasang-gu, Busan, where he had sought treatment for injuries sustained during the attack.

Police are investigating the exact motive behind the crime and plan to seek an arrest warrant for A.
