The Army has relieved the Korea Military Academy's cadet commander — a general-grade officer responsible for overseeing cadet training — of his duties amid gapjil allegations, including inappropriate conduct and the issuing of personal orders, and has launched an inspection investigation into the matter.

The Army confirmed Thursday that it "is conducting an inspection investigation into the cadet commander's inappropriate conduct and personal orders," adding that it relieved him of his duties as of Aug. 20 "as a measure to ensure a thorough investigation, taking into account facts confirmed during the probe."

The Army added that it "asks for understanding that specific details cannot be disclosed given that an investigation by the Army Headquarters inspection office is currently underway."

The cadet commander holds the rank of brigadier general and oversees the cadet corps, which is responsible for cadet training and discipline. The position has traditionally been filled by Korea Military Academy graduates, and Brigadier General Park, who was relieved of his duties, is also a KMA alumnus.

Park is alleged to have engaged in gapjil — including inappropriate conduct and the issuing of personal orders — targeting training officers of field-grade and company-grade rank.
