Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power's Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant said Wednesday that Marine Corps 1st Division Commander Park Sung-soon visited the facility to inspect its integrated anti-drone defense system — the first of its kind at a domestic nuclear power plant — and discuss mutual cooperation on nuclear plant protection.

Park and accompanying officials received a briefing on the construction and operational status of Wolsong's anti-drone defense system before observing a live equipment demonstration at the facility's integrated operations center.

The two organizations agreed that drone-based security threats are growing increasingly sophisticated and varied, and that there is a pressing need to further strengthen anti-drone defense capabilities at nuclear power plants, which are designated national critical infrastructure.

Both sides agreed to deepen coordination between Wolsong and the Marine Corps 1st Division to ensure a swift and effective joint response in the event of an emergency.

"This visit was a meaningful occasion to jointly review Wolsong's anti-drone response system and further solidify our cooperative framework with the military for nuclear plant protection," said Kwon Won-taek, head of Wolsong Nuclear Power Plant.
