A man in his 30s has been arrested on charges of holding a female colleague in her 20s captive overnight after developing a one-sided romantic interest in her.
The Gwangju Nambu Police Station said Monday it had apprehended the suspect, identified only as A, on charges of kidnapping and unlawful confinement of a coworker, and that an investigation is underway.
A is accused of luring his female colleague, identified as B, into his car near their workplace at around 6 p.m. Saturday before taking her to a vacant family-owned house in Nam-gu, where he held her against her will.
The investigation found that A kept B confined through the night before dropping her off in Seo-gu on Sunday at around 10:30 a.m. and fleeing the scene.
After receiving a report from the victim, police tracked A's movements and arrested him near his residence at around 7:30 a.m. Tuesday.
During police questioning, A reportedly said he acted out of romantic feelings for B.
Police are investigating the full circumstances and motive behind the incident, believing A carried out the crime because of his feelings toward B.
