Korea National Railway launches project operator bid, citing three-line transit access and strong industrial and residential infrastructure
Digital Media City (DMC) Station is set to be transformed into a mixed-use cultural complex, leveraging its position as a three-line transit hub and the surrounding industrial and residential infrastructure.
Korea National Railway announced Tuesday it will accept applications for a project operator for the DMC Station complex development over a 60-day period through Oct. 23.
The project site covers 5,598.7 square meters and will be developed into a mixed-use space combining commercial, business and cultural functions, drawing on the station's transit-oriented location and surrounding development conditions to inject new vitality into Seoul's northwestern districts.
DMC Station serves as a major transfer hub where subway Line 6, the Airport Railroad and the Gyeongui-Jungang Line converge, offering strong metropolitan access to downtown Seoul, Incheon International Airport and key areas across the greater metropolitan area. The station is also flanked by advanced industrial clusters — including the Sangam DMC and Magok industrial complexes — and large residential zones such as the Hyangdong public housing district and Eunpyeong New Town, conditions that make the site well suited for mixed-use development.
The site had originally been included in a higher-level district unit plan but was reclassified as a separate zone through a revision announced in December 2024, enabling independent project execution and more flexible development planning.
Through the competition, Korea National Railway said it will focus on evaluating proposals for a mixed-use development concept incorporating commercial, business and cultural functions; a differentiated development plan that capitalizes on the transit-oriented location and the characteristics of idle railway land; and strategies for revitalizing the area while securing both public benefit and commercial viability.
Lee An-ho, acting president of Korea National Railway, said DMC Station on the Gyeongui Line sits in "a strategic location with excellent transport accessibility and rich development potential," adding that the competition would "raise the value of idle railway land and create a model transit-oriented development project that strikes the right balance between public benefit and commercial viability."
