Cheongdo-gun in North Gyeongsang Province held a shipment ceremony Monday for "ice hongsi" — a frozen persimmon product made from the region's signature Cheongdo bansi persimmon — marking the county's first export of the item to Japan.

Ice hongsi is a processed product made from Cheongdo bansi persimmons, offering consumers a convenient way to enjoy the fruit's characteristic sweetness and smooth texture.

The exporter, Cheongdowongam Co., is a persimmon processing company based in Sindo-ri, Cheongdo-eup. Designated a North Gyeongsang Province superior agricultural product in 2024, the company has built a reputation for quality and competitiveness, and has consistently expanded its overseas reach by exporting a range of Cheongdo bansi products — including dried persimmon strips — to the United States, Canada and Indonesia.

This shipment totals about 2.7 metric tons and will be sold through Seven-Eleven, which operates Japan's largest convenience store network with approximately 22,000 locations.

"We will actively support efforts to strengthen the competitiveness of local agricultural specialties and processed foods and to expand stable overseas markets," Cheongdo-gun Mayor Park Gwon-hyeon said.
