"Spider-Man: Brand New Day," starring Tom Holland, has surpassed 8 million cumulative admissions in South Korea, making it the second most-watched domestic release of the year behind The King's Warden.

Distributor Sony Pictures said Sunday the film had logged 8.05 million admissions on its 26th day in theaters. Jang Hang-jun's The King's Warden leads the year with about 16.92 million admissions, leaving "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" in second place among this year's releases.

The fourth installment in the Spider-Man franchise follows Peter Parker (Tom Holland), whose identity has been erased from the memories of everyone who knew him, as he navigates loneliness and confusion on his path to adulthood.

The film reunites the cast of its predecessors, including Zendaya as Peter's girlfriend MJ and Jacob Batalon as his best friend Ned.

"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" has surpassed the domestic records of both "Spider-Man: Far From Home" (2019, 8.02 million admissions) and "Spider-Man: No Way Home" (2021, 7.55 million admissions), making it the highest-grossing entry in Holland's Spider-Man run.

Audience reception has been strong, with CGV's Egg index — a score based on verified moviegoer reviews — standing at 97 percent.
