Residents of a villa apartment building say they have been stressed and embarrassed by a neighbor on the first floor who watches pornography at high volume with his window wide open.
According to JTBC's "Sageon Banjang," a viewer-submitted grievance program, a complainant identified only as A has been troubled by the behavior of a man who moved into the first floor of the same building two months ago.
A was tying his shoelaces outside the building on his way to work recently when he heard unmistakable sounds coming from nearby. Looking toward the source, he found the first-floor resident watching adult content with his window fully open.
The audio was loud enough to be heard clearly from outside the building. A said he had witnessed the same scene five or six times.
Unable to stay silent any longer, A approached the man and said: "I was embarrassed to bring this up, but the sounds from the adult content you're watching can be heard outside. A lot of children pass by here, so could you at least close your window?"
The man pushed back, saying his hearing was poor and he needed the volume high. "I'm watching it in my own home — what's the problem?" he said. He added: "We're both men, so what's the big deal? I'll handle it myself, so mind your own business."
The two parted ways after the argument, with A saying: "Even if you're watching it in your own home, making other people uncomfortable is just rude."
Attorney Park Ji-hoon said criminal charges for public indecency would likely be difficult to apply, but that the behavior showed a complete lack of consideration for neighbors. "Children could hear this too, and the fact that he left the window open so the sound carried outside makes it feel almost deliberate," Park said.
