A screening of "Odyssey" at a movie theater in Incheon was halted and police were called after a Chinese woman caused a disturbance, loudly talking during the film and arguing with other audience members.
Multiple posts appeared on the social media platform Threads on Thursday describing the incident, in which a foreign audience member caused a scene at an Incheon theater. According to one witness, identified only as A, the disruption occurred during the roughly three-hour film.
A said the Chinese woman kept her phone screen at maximum brightness throughout the screening while muttering to herself in Chinese. She also made loud, aggressive noises and behaved disruptively.
Some audience members, unable to tolerate her behavior, left the theater mid-screening in frustration, according to A.
Video footage made public showed the woman standing in the aisle between seats, shouting back at a man who had confronted her about her conduct and pointing at him aggressively.
Police responded to a report and escorted the woman from the theater. The theater halted the screening and gave the remaining audience members gift vouchers.
Meanwhile, "Odyssey" topped the domestic box office on Thursday with about 188,000 admissions, capturing a 63.2 percent share of ticket revenue, according to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing system. The film, which opened Aug. 5, has drawn a cumulative audience of about 6.788 million — putting the 7 million mark within reach.
