Special domestic in-flight broadcasts Friday and Saturday
Office air conditioning raised 2 degrees during peak hours
Jin Air will join the "Turn Off the Lights, Turn On the Stars" campaign to promote everyday energy conservation in observance of the 23rd Energy Day on Saturday.
The airline will run special in-flight broadcasts for domestic passengers Friday and Saturday, and will maintain recommended indoor temperatures during peak electricity hours.
Jin Air has participated in the energy conservation campaign since 2022. Energy Day was established after Aug. 22, 2003, when South Korea recorded its highest-ever electricity consumption. The Energy Citizen Solidarity leads an annual campaign to help stabilize summer power supply and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Jin Air plans to deliver messages urging passengers to reflect on the climate crisis and the importance of energy conservation. The in-flight broadcasts will frame everyday practices — raising air conditioner temperatures by 2 degrees Celsius and turning off lights for five minutes — as "a beautiful moment to turn off the lights and turn on the stars," encouraging passengers to take part. On Friday, the airline will also keep its head office air conditioning set at 26 degrees Celsius from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m., the peak electricity consumption window.
The campaign is part of Jin Air's ongoing green management initiatives. The carrier has been introducing low-carbon, high-efficiency aircraft and cutting carbon emissions through a paperless cockpit system, fuel reduction programs, shorter route development and expanded use of mobile boarding passes. It has also pursued a range of eco-friendly activities, including upcycling goods made from retired uniforms and community environmental cleanup drives.

Meanwhile, Jin Air recently conducted a joint emergency-response drill with Air Busan and Air Seoul at the Korea Coast Guard Education and Training Institute in Yeosu, South Jeolla Province, over two nights and three days. The exercise, titled "Hanjin Group LCC Three-Carrier and Korea Coast Guard Joint Drill," aimed at strengthening real-world response capabilities in emergency situations. The three carriers are set to launch as a unified low-cost carrier in March.
