Premium outdoor brand Black Yak announced Thursday that it has signed a five-year retail distribution agreement with Taiwan's major retail conglomerate Emers Group, with plans to expand its local operations starting in February next year.
Black Yak has been accelerating its push into overseas markets since launching a global campaign in the first half of this year. The partnership with Emers will allow the company to refine its distribution structure and brand strategy in Taiwan. Black Yak plans to diversify beyond its current base of specialty and retail stores by breaking into large-format channels such as department stores and wholesale, broadening its reach to local consumers.
Emers operates a distribution network spanning 23 countries across Asia and has handled retail for major sports and fashion brands including Nike, Jordan, Polo and Levi's. Taiwan proved a natural fit: more than half the island's land area is mountainous, fostering a strong outdoor culture centered on hiking and backpacking, while interest in K-fashion has been growing steadily.
Black Yak will tailor its product lineup to local consumer preferences. Given Taiwan's hot and humid climate, the brand will introduce lightweight, versatile lifestyle products alongside its high-end alpine line, the DNS Collection, and high-performance gear for hiking and trekking. The company plans to analyze consumer response over time and build a portfolio that bridges everyday wear and outdoor performance.
Kang Jun-seok, president and head of Black Yak's management strategy division, said the company would "establish a foundation for sustained growth in the Asian market, using Taiwan as a base."
