Democratic Party of Korea leader Kim Min-seok said Thursday that all party news should begin with early-morning broadcasts on Democratic Party TV.

Kim made the remarks on his SNS account, calling for "a full-scale overhaul — from the party's core brand concept to the look of its meetings and the attire of its members."

He directed Kim Nam-jun, the party's public relations committee chair, to "begin a comprehensive review of everything related to the Democratic Party's communications and brand."

Kim also asked Kim Nam-jun to work with the Democratic Party TV task force to discuss making the channel "the basic platform for all news produced by the party."

He went on to say the party should prepare consultations and discussions with party member groups and outside experts on Democratic Party TV and related matters, and added that a public briefing session should be arranged "as soon as possible."

The remarks are widely interpreted as a move to break the party's longstanding reliance on pro-government YouTube channels — including those associated with Kim Ou-joon — for delivering key messages, and to bring control of public opinion directly under the party's roof.

Meanwhile, at the supreme council meeting Wednesday, Kim said the sessions would "in principle be open to the public," while adding that matters requiring confidentiality "will be strictly observed."
