Mayor Kim Seong-je pledges continued support for youth initiatives
Uiwang will hold the "2026 Uiwang Youth Week & Youth Day" from Sept. 14 to 19, targeting local residents between the ages of 19 and 39.
The event was designed to give young people a chance to step back from daily life, discover new sides of themselves and share their experiences and challenges with one another.
This year's theme is "Just Start!" — a message of encouragement for youth to recognize their own potential and take small first steps, even without grand ambitions.
During Youth Week, six community youth spaces will take part, each running one-day programs that reflect their individual character. Activities such as woodworking, pottery and calligraphy are on offer, giving local youth the chance to explore a range of pursuits close to home while getting acquainted with youth spaces in their area.
Youth Day on Sept. 19 will feature programs organized around three themes: Recharge, Discover and Challenge.
Under the Recharge theme, participants can make a mini garden or try a decorative glass door bell craft, giving them time to unwind and refresh away from their everyday routines.
The Discover theme offers personal color analysis and makeup consultations, helping young people find a new look that suits them and learn more about themselves.
The Challenge theme invites youth to present projects and experiences they planned and carried out themselves, sharing stories of their own attempts and exchanging words of encouragement with one another.
The city will also host a book talk titled "First, the First Sound" and a singer-songwriter performance, along with various other events open to all youth without prior registration, creating a space for free socializing and enjoyment.
Registration for the 2026 Uiwang Youth Week & Youth Day is open through Aug. 30 via a QR code on promotional flyers or through a dedicated website.

Mayor Kim Seong-je said the event was prepared "so that young people's small interests and attempts can become a starting point for discovering new possibilities," adding that he hoped many local youth would take part.
"Going forward, we will continue to support the diverse attempts and challenges of young people and create ongoing opportunities for them to fully realize their potential," Kim added.
