Gmarket announced Thursday it will donate 300 million won ($213,000) to support flood recovery and displaced residents in South Gyeongsang Province, which was hard hit by recent heavy rains.
The funds will be delivered to the Hope Bridge National Disaster Relief Association and used to restore facilities in Tongyeong, Geoje and other affected areas, as well as to help flood victims rebuild their daily lives.
The company also plans to expand sales channels for farms damaged by the downpours. Starting Aug. 31, Gmarket's chuseok promotion — its "Hangawi Big Sale" — will offer discounted agricultural products from affected farms. The initiative aims to help farmers recover by broadening the market for misshapen fruits and vegetables whose commercial value was diminished by the flooding.
Gmarket has also put together a support package for small and mid-sized sellers in the affected region. The company plans to hold a special "small business solidarity" showcase featuring products from small merchants in Tongyeong, Geoje and other parts of South Gyeongsang Province, and will boost product exposure across Gmarket and Auction as part of broader marketing support.
"We will go beyond a simple donation and use the strengths of our retail platform to help affected farms and small sellers recover as quickly as possible," a Gmarket official said.
