The Han River Flood Control Office, an agency under the Ministry of Climate, Environment and Energy, said Thursday it is publishing the "2025 Korea Hydrological Survey Yearbook," a compilation of hydrological data produced by survey agencies nationwide throughout 2025.
The yearbook is a national hydrological data compendium that consolidates information gathered by survey agencies across the country and is used for water resource management, planning and research.
This year's edition covers six fields — precipitation, water level, streamflow, sediment discharge, evapotranspiration and soil moisture — with data from a total of 2,560 stations. By field, the breakdown is 649 precipitation stations, 1,217 water-level stations, 634 streamflow stations, 37 sediment discharge stations, 14 evapotranspiration stations and 9 soil moisture stations.
The number of water-level monitoring stations expanded by 186 from the previous year, bringing the total to 1,217 stations covered in this edition. By agency, the four flood control offices under the Ministry of Climate, Environment and Energy added 180 stations, Korea Water Resources Corporation added one, and Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power added five.
In the streamflow category, the yearbook includes measurement data from 634 stations, an increase of 18 from the prior year. Among those, automatic flow measurement sites grew from 71 to 170, a gain of 99 stations.
The Han River Flood Control Office said it is continuously strengthening its monitoring network — extending water-level observation coverage to small and mid-sized rivers and expanding automatic flow measurement — in tandem with the rollout of AI-based flood forecasting.

Kim Gu-beom, head of the Han River Flood Control Office, said the yearbook "consolidates hydrological data produced nationwide on an annual basis, offering a single reference for the current state of hydrological monitoring and data across the country." He added, "We will continue to provide highly reliable hydrological data so that it can be used for scientific flood forecasting and water management."
