A handmade fountain pen crafted by actor Gu Hye-sun sold out within a day of its release.

On Wednesday, Gu announced on Instagram that some of the fountain pens had sold out, writing, "I will work harder to become an artist who creates great works. Thank you."

The fountain pen, which debuted Tuesday, drew attention for its steep price of 450,000 won ($319). "Since the price is on the higher side, I hope people will view it as a work of art and use it as such," Gu said. According to the product listing, the pen is made from faux leather.

Gu has been increasingly active as an entrepreneur, drawing both controversy and attention with her premium-priced products. Her hair roller "Kurol," which she developed and patented herself, sold for 13,000 won per unit or 25,000 won for a two-pack. The product sold more than 30,000 units, generating roughly 400 million won in sales.

"Unlike conventional round hair rollers, this product eliminates more than 80 percent of the plastic," Gu said. "It is durable enough for permanent use."

She added that the initial production run was small, which drove up costs and kept prices high, but that she planned to gradually offer discount events so consumers would not feel burdened by the price.
